Overview

Nepal is one of Asia's great mountain-biking destinations: old trading trails and forest single-track around the Kathmandu Valley rim, rolling mid-hill villages above Pokhara, and high-altitude routes that climb past 3,500 m alongside Annapurna and into the desert canyons of Mustang.

We run rides for every level — a half-day descent through terraced hills, a multi-day point-to-point through Tamang and Gurung villages, or a full Himalayan crossing over high passes with a support vehicle behind you. Every route goes out with a licensed guide, a tested bike, and a real plan for the altitude.

Why This Trip Works

The terrain range is the draw: flowing forest single-track, rough jeep tracks, ancient stone staircases, and high mountain roads — beginner-friendly loops and expert enduro lines often within the same region.

You ride through real Nepal rather than around it — tea stops in hill villages, monasteries on ridgelines, and teahouse nights you reach by pedal instead of by plane.

Routes flex to your time and fitness: bolt a half-day ride onto a Pokhara stay, or build a two-week high-altitude crossing as the trip itself.

Highlights

  • Kathmandu Valley rim single-track through pine forest and terraced farmland
  • High-altitude riding over Himalayan passes above 3,500 m
  • Desert canyons and old kingdom trails of Upper and Lower Mustang
  • Technical enduro and shuttle-assisted downhill descents for experienced riders
  • Quality front- or full-suspension bikes, with e-MTB available
  • Support vehicle, guide, and mechanic on multi-day routes

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Bike fitting & shakeout ride

Meet your guide in Kathmandu or Pokhara, dial in your bike, and spin an easy warm-up loop to check fit and brakes before the route begins.

  2. Days 2–3

    Into the foothills

Point-to-point riding through terraced hills and Gurung villages, climbing steadily with teahouse nights as the big mountain views open up.

  3. Days 4–6

    Up to altitude

The route gains height toward 3,000–3,800 m, mixing rideable jeep track with short hike-a-bike sections; the support vehicle carries gear and tired legs when needed.

  4. Day 7

    High point & a pass

An early start for the highest col of the trip, then a long, well-earned descent into a new valley.

  5. Days 8–9

Mustang's canyons or the long descent

Roll through wind-carved desert canyons and old walled villages, or begin the drop back toward the lowlands and green hills.

  6. Final day

    Last descent & return transfer

A final descent, a celebration meal, and the drive back to Kathmandu or Pokhara. (A representative high-route plan — shorter and easier rides are built the same way.)

Who This Trip Is Best For

  • Experienced cyclists
  • Mountain-bike enthusiasts
  • Adventure travelers
  • Fit first-time riders (on easier routes)
  • Small private groups

Difficulty & Preparation

Routes are graded Moderate to Challenging. Easier valley and mid-hill rides suit fit recreational cyclists; high-altitude and enduro routes need genuine off-road experience and good cardiovascular fitness.

High routes climb above 3,500 m, so the same acclimatization rules as trekking apply — we build altitude gain in gradually and watch everyone for symptoms. Expect some hike-a-bike on the steepest or roughest sections.

Tell us your riding history honestly — bike type, comfort on technical descents, longest recent ride — and we will match the route, daily distance, and support level to your group.

Best Season

  • October–November: the prime window — stable weather, clear mountain air, and dry trails after the monsoon.
  • March–April: warm and green, with rhododendron in bloom on the mid-hills and mostly dry trails.
  • December–February: excellent for lower valley and Pokhara-area rides, though high passes may be snowbound. The June–September monsoon suits the rain-shadow desert of Mustang, where riding stays dry.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring my own bike?

No — we provide well-maintained front- or full-suspension mountain bikes sized to you, with a helmet and basic spares. You are welcome to bring your own; tell us in advance so we can plan for a travel case and a pre-ride service.

How fit and experienced do I need to be?

It depends entirely on the route. Mid-hill and valley rides suit fit recreational cyclists, while high-altitude and technical descents need real off-road experience. We grade every route honestly and match it to your group — there is no shame in an e-bike or a support vehicle.

Is it safe to ride at high altitude?

Yes, with the same respect trekking demands. We gain height gradually, watch for altitude symptoms, carry a first-aid kit, and keep a support vehicle within reach on most high routes. If conditions or health say turn around, we turn around.

Can beginners join?

Fit first-time mountain bikers are very welcome on our easier valley and mid-hill routes, often with an e-bike to take the sting out of the climbs. We will steer you toward a route you will enjoy rather than endure.
